As spiritual beings, we are all on a journey searching for fulfillment and purpose. We all want to unlock the hidden meaning in our lives. This seeking takes us down many roads throughout our lifetimes. Many of these roads end in frustration and desperate feelings of emptiness. We are looking to material things or external situations to fill the spiritual void in our hearts. This is the place where God meets us. In our brokenness, God opens our eyes to the true nature of our seeking.
Once we understand the truth about God and our seeking, we understand that it was God who was drawing us to Himself all along. We realize that there is nothing that we can do in our own power to bridge the gap between us and a Holy God. It is at this point we realize that God has done the work of redemption for us in the form of His son Jesus. Jesus, the son of God, lived a perfect life and was crucified for our sins in order to show God’s tremendous mercy and grace. This awakening is a process that is sometime gradual and sometimes instant. But it is by no means the end of our seeking. In fact, it is the true beginning.
How do we continue to live our lives in light of God’s mercy and love? We have now focused our search on the truth and love that is in God’s nature. We have become seekers after God’s heart.
At New Providence Community Church, God’s vision is for our community to embrace all people with the love of God. No matter what part of the journey a person may be on, they are welcomed into our community and challenged to take the next step of faith to move closer to an experience with God. Whether we realize it or not, we are all seeking God and NPCC is a safe place to allow God to reveal Himself.
What We Believe
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, the maker of heaven and earth, of things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the begotten of God the Father, the Only-begotten, that is of the essence of the Father.
God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten and not made; of the very same nature of the Father, by Whom all things came into being, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.
Who for us humanity and for our salvation came down from heaven, was incarnate, was made human, was born perfectly of the holy virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit.
By whom He took body, soul, and mind, and everything that is in man, truly and not in semblance.
He suffered, was crucified, was buried, rose again on the third day, ascended into heaven with the same body, [and] sat at the right hand of the Father.
He is to come with the same body and with the glory of the Father, to judge the living and the dead; of His kingdom there is no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, in the uncreated and the perfect; Who spoke through the Law, prophets, and Gospels; Who came down upon the Jordan, preached through the apostles, and lived in the saints.
We believe also in only One, Universal, Apostolic, and [Holy] Church; in one baptism in repentance, for the remission, and forgiveness of sins; and in the resurrection of the dead, in the everlasting judgement of souls and bodies, and the Kingdom of Heaven and in the everlasting life.
What We Value
Our community places the highest value on the Living God. We seek to more fully bring God's presence and will into the world by pursuing a set of values that flow out of God's very nature and being. It is our experience with God, through following Jesus, that shapes the way we relate to our world. As a community, our identity is a reflection of how we have been shaped by God's character and the ways that we have been called to reflect that character into the world around us. Below are four value statements that serve as road markers on our journey towards being love in the world:
Truth : God is the author, creator and mediator of all truth. All truth is God's truth. To encounter God is to encounter the ultimate truth of what it means to live a human life. Our community values all truth and seeks to integrate it into our understanding of God and His created world. We follow three main portals in our pursuit of God's truth: The Bible, the tradition of the Church and our experience as followers of Jesus.
Beauty : The essence of God is beautiful! That beauty is reflected in the created world and the creativity that we bring into the world through God's inspiration. To allow beauty to enter into our hearts allows us to experience healing and hope and can serve as a powerful pointer towards God's loving presence in the world. We seek to support and encourage the creation of beauty in our world.
Justice : God is the God of justice. He has created the world with a sense of balance and a desire for equality among all people. As a reflection of God's justice, we seek to interfere with injustice in our world in order to make God's nature more fully known, especially for those who have been hurt by human injustices.
Intimacy : God exists in intimate community with himself. Each one of us was designed to connect intimately with God in our spirits. We experience wholeness and stability in our world when we are connected to God. This connection allows us to connect with others in authentic and intimate ways. We seek to model lives that are whole and connected to God in a moment-by-moment way.
